I remember my mom made something similar when I was little. She used to put the cranberries in a food processor and grind them to a sort of pulp. she would add like 5 cups of sugar and let it set overnight in the fridge so that the crannberries could soak up the sugar, otherwise it would be really sour. then she added a container of cool whip, chopped pecans, a package of strawberry jello and marshmellows, I am not sure this is the one your thinking of though and I think she used like three bags of fresh cranberries!
You can follow this recipe and leave out the mandarin oranges and pineapple if you want.
